I just got an A60 for christmas. I'd definitely go with the A80 over the Coolpix. The Canon A series is practically the only digicam outside the Big-Money SLRs that actually allows you to manually adjust Shutter Speed, Aperture, and has shutter-priority and aperture-priority modes. Even with the 2.0MP, I'm able to take very good quality photos that I'm extremely pleased with, for my purposes. Definitely get the A80.
Plus Manual Exposure Control for unlimited creative possibilities, including a 60 second BULB feature for longer exposures.From an article on the Nikon...don't know about the aperture.
