...for the past few years the hot chardonnay around here has been Rombauer, at least among te women of the tennis set.
It's style is soft and buttery and it sells for about $30 a bottle.
In fact there is a development not far away of gated mcmansions in Danville called Blackhawk.
The developer has an amazing auto museum there, but that's another story.
When the new of shipment of Rombauer shows up at the Safeway nearby and wine shop across from it, the women from Blackhawk swarm and buy it out.
So locally, it's referred to as "Danville crack".
Lately there's rumoured to be a new contender - a wine comparable to the legendary Rombauer a little more than $10 a bottle.
It's 2008 Columbia Crest Chardonnay H3 Horse Heaven Hills - Parker gave it 89 points.
Has anyone tried it?
