...here's an interesting story.
A friend of mine is a commercial banker and has a lot of winery accounts.
She recently visited with a new account, a winery in Lake County.
They have an inexpensive red blend that is sold at a lot of discount stores in the $10 range and is a big hit in high demand.
It is cannibalizing their better reds and vinyard designated labels which are more expensive and aren't selling very well.
They gave the winery advice that they needed to up the quality of the good wines if they were going to charge as much for them - so that they are a lot better than the cheap one and can justify their price.
I'd say the same to Rosenblum about their wines - although a zin, even a reserve zin, would have to be pretty damn amazing to sell for $65.
