It was bought by Auchun. This leaves an enormous vacuum in my life, as I always enjoyed the Mammouth in Mâcon Nord. My family turned it into a verb: "On va mammouthé!" Somehow, Auchun does not have the same allure and the Caffefour is all the way in Mâcon Sud, adding a good 30 minutes (back and forth) driving.

I always find it hysterical that the French imagine the hypermarchés are American imports and not French inventions! The hypermarchés have done more to ruin French culture, cuisine and wine than any other phenomena over the past 16 years I have been regularly travelling/living in France. The MacDonald's are almost too facile a target as they are identifiably foreign and American -- the real threat comes from within.

By the way, I forgot to answer a question you sent me about Vins Jaune. My brother-in-law did his studies in the Jura and had a collection of old Vins Jaune that were not to my taste. I have no recollection who the producers would have been. Otherwise, I've mostly had cooperative bottlings, Puffenay, the two Tissot domaines. But my tastings have not been thorough. The Overnoy bottling is the first that truly struck my fancy.

Too bad there are not more French speakers on the board. I also found the recipe very funny.
