Did anyone log a summer of use with the new Briggs outboard? I'm looking for a review by someone with some real experienc with the motor. How fuel efficient was it? how well did it troll? etc.
Follow Ups:
6 hours run time at full throttle on 3 gallon tank. As stated in the owners manual.
What can any of you tell me about the durability of these outboards so far? I am looking to get on for my dad for Christmas. Thanks
Don't buy one . After 15 hrs of use my briggs outboard will not run . Want to know why? It does not like to get wet! Thats right, a light mist to the top of the motor or a powerboat wake will kill it. 10 mins later it starts up. I'm sending briggs a video of it shortly . They do not believe me. Hopefully I will get my money back.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.................I don't know how thats possible. I've driven the boat through torrential downpours and fished in downpours and the engine didn't notice a thing. Maybe a seal or something is off.
I've had the Briggs since May and have been using it weekly on my jon boat. So far it has been great, everything I wanted. As far as fuel consumption goes it uses very little gas. I can't give you any real numbers on that though. I don't troll with it however, I use my trolling motor for that. It always starts on the 1st or 2nd pull and I let it warm up in neutral for a few minutes before I go. All in all it has been well worth the money so far.
Thanks for the input! Is the engine the same one used on a lawnmower, or have they somehow modified it? I have not been able to see one up close to inspect. However, I love Briggs engines and am very excited to see them offer an outboard.
As far as it being similar to a lwanmower engine I'm not sure. the muffler is right on the back so it is similar in that way, and it is air cooled.
Are they too loud?
Hey Dougg.Did you ever find out anything about the noise? I'm interested in getting one, but also concerned about the noise. Thanks
The noise isn't bad at all. It's probably louder than your average 5hp because the muffler is on the outside but it is not obtrusive at all. At first I thought it was loud, but then I realized thats because in my friends boat I'm sitting up front. His is also a Nissan which is a little quieter. For the price, and the performance so far, you can not go wrong with this engine.
