Hey everyone,Is anyone familiar with Zeiss Ikon Novicar Colora Prontor 125 2.8/50? I recently got hold of this camera, and I was wondering how I use it! I recently inherited this camera, and decided to use it...so I did...trouble is all I got out was white...and blank negatives...I don't know what I did wrong - there are loads of dials, where you have to adjust things, and the current settings are; 8 feet/m (think of a 8 on its side); a red marking is set to 30; and the yellow marking is set to 8. As I said, I don't know how to use this...and any help would be much appreciated!
Follow Ups:
Thanks for your reply! I will get hold of another roll of film, and then I will try again - I will set my shutter to 125, and hopefully won't get the same problem - my aperture may have been opened too wide...and that could have had these consequences - I will post a followup, if things should go right or wrong!
I haven't actually had the time to get a new roll of film, (with exams and stuff) but I did a test with no film, and it did in fact stick, at 30, a few times, but has had no problems at 60 as yet, or 125. I am planning to take some pictures soon, so hopefully I know by then. BTW, if I plan to stand in front of the sunlight (as I have no flash) what aperture size do you recommend, I can use 2.8 (largest) 4, 5.6 8, 11, 16, 22 (smallest). I was thinking of just taking 3 snapshots at various aperture sizes to see what works best, but that is probably wasting film.
The older Zeiss 35mm cameras are known for shutter problems. I have a Contaflex which is afflicted. In my camera's case, the shutter only works above 1/125 sec. At all speeds 1/125 sec or less, the shutter sticks open until the film is wound forward- which will result in a white image from overexposure. My shutter does work at 1/250 sec and above but with only 1/250th and 1/500th to pick from it's hardly usable for much. It's also not worth the expense of repair as it's not in museum condition.Your model is the later version with that lens and shutter combination and they are very common and not deemed very collectiable. The earlier version is more rare and can be worth a bit more.
I suspect your shutter is giving similar problems on the white frames and probably not working at all for the blank ones.
