I've suddenly started having problems with my CoolPix. I turn it on, the lens extends, the screen illuminates for a second...goes black...and the camera turns off by itself. The batteries are good and I even took them out for a minute and reinserted them before trying again. It keeps doing the same thing. Anyone ever heard of this.
Follow Ups:
Almost all the people who come in to my store complaining about their camera not working claim it has "new batteries" and are perplexed when I put in a set of good batteries and the camera works. Why does it work? Batteries.
I assume those you are using are AA alkalines. Get some lithiums or rechargable NiMh batteries for your camera. Alkaline batteries are a pathetic joke when used in most digital cameras because their current capacity is too low to cope with the camera's high demands. Reserve the alkalines for a radio or flashlight.
Why do camera manufacturers give you a set of alkaline batteries with a new camera? Because they are cheap.
