...6 of us blind tasted 6 syrahs - the winner is the one with the lowest points.
6. 2012 Melville Santa Barbara $36 - 34pts - 5 lasts - tasted kind of "skunky"
5. 2013 Renwood Amador $25 - 24pts - was a tad bitter with not much fruit (a surprise since they are making some pretty good wines)
4. 2015 Bell Canterbury Sierra Foothills $20 - 20pts - 1 first, 1 last - tasted different than the others with vanilla notes
tie 3./2. 2013 Jeff Runquist Paso Robles $25 - 18pts - pretty good (my #3)
tie 2./3. 2014 Tensley Santa Barbara $28 - 18pts - 1 first (my #2 -
available at Jackson's in Lafayette)
1. 2015 Line Shack San Antonio Valley Monterey $18 - 12pts - 4 firsts (my #1 - available at Total Wines)
Interesting that the most expensive wine finished last and the cheapest once again was #1. I had a difficult time deciding which I liked best - the the Line Shack (a little more balanced) or the Tensley (a little more fruit) but the low points say it all.
