...our wine tasting group had a XMas dinner with our wives to taste chardonnay. Last time we did this Rombauer was the big favorite so we decided not to include it this year. There were 12 of us (lowest score wins):
6. Hafner Resrve Alexander Valley $30 - 54pts (one first)
5. Beringer Santa Barbara $28 - 49pts (my #2)
4. Raymond Napa $20 - 46pts (one first)
3. Rochioli $36 - 42pts (one first)
2. Neyers $23 - 34pts (2 firsts) (my #3 which I brought)
1. Butter Jam Cellars $16 - 28pts (7 firsts) (my #1)
Note the big point gap between the first two and the others and the predominance of #1 choices. It's not often the least expensive wine wins. Butter is made by the former Rombauer winemaker.
