...just returned from our first trip there and wanted to share what we found.Nice little town, larger than I expected with some terrific restaurants and over 250 wineries.
Wineries we visited in order of wine quality:
- Booker - a couple of excellent, layered big reds but pretty expensive - $50 for their chardonnay and $70 for the syrah. Worth a stop to taste.- Turley - still making great zins, nice Napa-style tasting room.
- Windward - nice pinot noirs
- Cypher (formerly Four Vines, same winemaker) - quirky, fun place, loved their Zin Bitch with glitter on the bottle neck. If you go ask to see their barrel room.
- Ecluse - nice red blends, had a good chat with Steve, the winemaker
- Peachy Canyon - decent low priced zins
- Justin - way out in west Paso - beautiful place, nice reds
- Tablas Creek - near Justin - French style blends with more terroir and acid than fruit, should pair well with food.
- Fratelli Perato - small, run down place, ok wines
- Hunt Cellars - advertising a 96 pt. pinot noir and 95 pt. cabernet. I'm convinced they added at least 20 points to each one.
- Eagle Castle - interesting place, terrible wines.
A couple recommended we missed:
- Mondo - up on a hill with great sunset views and a band on Friday nights.- Sculptera - way out in East Paso with a large collection of metal sculptures.

Treana and HopePlaces to stay :
- Hotel Cheval - 16 room boutique hotel downtown with a bar in front and a patio with fireplaces in the back, walking distance to restaurants, bars and shops.- La Belaserra - we stayed here - boutique hotel with rooms or suites with fireplaces or jacuzzies - good restaurant inside, Enoteca.
Restaurants:
- Bistro Laurent (French) - one of the more amazing meals I've had in a long time - 5 course tasting menu paired with wines and an incredible value.- Il Cortile - (Itialian) - great meal here as well.
We only scratched the surface.
