...up there the past two days to visit my daughter and see a great basketball game.
There are now over 19 wine tasting rooms and wineries in the area, using grapes grown in the Columbia Valley area of south eastern part of the state.
We visited 5 and here are my impressions:
- most expensive tasting room was $5, two were free, pouring over a dozen wines
- Washington grapes make better merlot than CA grapes
- many decent sangiovese and cabernet francs
- prices on some of the better wines are reminiscent of Napa, like $35 cab and a $48 meritage
- many wineries use the designation T-#, like T-3 to T-5, to indicate the number of different varietals blended
My friend and I ended up sharing a couple of cases.
