New to collecting and poor (storage question)

Hi i recently decided that i would like to start collecting wine. I am young and poor and live in a small appartment. I only plan to buy 2 or 3 bottles a year to save for 10 years or so but i dont want that saving to go to waste. Right now i own a crappy little wooden wine rack that just sits on my kitchen counter. I live in seattle so it doesnt get crazy hot and its not in direct sunlight or anything but it certainly isnt humidity or temp controlled either. Do i need to invest in some big unit or something if i want to do a minimal amount of collecting? I dont want the Quilceda Creek cab i just bought to be ruined in 10 years when im ready to drink it!
