There was a study that came out a couple years back (I believe in the New England Journal of Medicine) which tested the overall benefits and detriments to red wine consumption. Surprisingly, they found an overall benefit up to 5 glasses per night because of the polyphenols. After that, the harmful effects on your liver outweighed the benefits. Of course 5 glasses of wine could dull your mind, hurt memory, cause obesity or depression... Also reds vary in terms of polyphenol concentration.Two per night maximum seems much more reasonable for daily consumption.
