Jim, I read parkers notes constantly. the wine updates is an ok reference guide. Personally, I prefer his bordeaux book which has notes on most bottles from each chateau dating back to '61. You can use a pda and get access to erobertparker.com which has notes on wines from around the world rated better than 85pts back to the '70 vintage if available. subscription is ~$100/year.
