Hmmmm....

Deciphering the label..

So called Rubies (i.e. they are still red)
Just has Ruby on the label - then it is a nonvintage filtered blend of wines from a region
LBV Late Bottled Vintage - lowest cost ports proper these are single vinatage wines that are filtered and bottled from a given years stock (commonly from more than one estate).
Vintage - two forms 1/regional produced by cooperatives across a region, can produce a surprisingly cost effective wine that arew a good 'bargain hunt ground may or maynot require decanting
2/ Single Quinta these are single estate wines that truely reflect the terrain, the microclimate and the winemakers skill. These are more expensive, require decanting, and keep very well

So Called Tawnies

These can be simply broken down into age groups - very accesible port, but show the blenders art more than the viticultuers. Usually start at 5 year old.. 10, 15 and 20 year old are common older are rarer, but do exist - they just require a very good base wine to start with....

Get a book, do some reading, or better yet maintain some tasting notes of your own and JUMP in!
