In the past few days I have only had two wines. The main difficulty I have had was being at home to taste them. (The other difficulty I often encounter is "slow palate syndrome" - SPS.)The Derain St. Aubin "Le Banc" from 1998 was not destroyed by new oak, and had no off-putting wood aromas. It was probably shut down a bit, on a 2-point scale of ripeness, it was "not ripe", but the fruit was nice anyway. Initially it was not overly tannic, then the tannins firmed up on the second day, but I would still not say "overly tannic". It was definitely high in acidity, which is fine by me.
Also high in acidity was the 1998 Morgon "Javernieres" from Desvignes. On the same ripeness scale, this one was "ripe", more fruit, and also more tannin. I will keep this one much longer than the St. Aubin.
