...my focus is on zins.>Outpost intrigues me. Never had it. What are your overall experience with it and is it also hard to get on their list?>
No, the rest of the lists are easy - just sign up online.
I think Outpost is made by people who used to be at Turley. It's usually pretty good and gets better with a couple of years of bottle ageing.
>Never have been that impressed with the Rafanelli's I've had.>
One of my favorites year after year.
>Any other suggestions in the $30-$40 range?>
Other than Dowling Family and Limerick Lane, here are some suggestions:
Cline has some good ones that aren't widely distributed, like their 'Big Break'. Their 'Sonoma' is usually a great value under $20 for everyday drinking.
Seghesio (widely distributed) also has some good ones.
Ridge 'Lytton Springs' (widely distributed) is another perrenial favorite and needs a few years of ageing. They have a few others that vary year to year.
Rosenblum has some good ones, but they make about a dozen different vinyard designated ones, so you have to pick and chose. Their 'Harris Kratka' is usually one of my favorites. Some can be overly raisiny and ripe.
Dasche is another smaller one.
Ledson makes some good ones.
For chardonnay, which my wife drinks, our favorites are Rombauer, Ferrari-Cerrano and Newton.
Let me know what you find that you like.
