These bike usually smoke at start up if left on there sidestand overnight. The smoke should go away quickly after starting.
You might have the guy leave the bike on it center stand overnight and then try starting it ( it should not smoke)
Cons about this model, if he still has the complete fairing on the bike they are very hot (warm) when riding. Service is a bitch as you must lube the trans splies and drive splines every 40K to do this the bike must be split in half (big job) usually runs about $500 off the top of my head.
At 100K the bike is getting twords the middle of its service live as I have heard of these bike running 150K-200K+ before needing a major motor rebuild.
When these bikes are left on there sidestand overnight you will get smoke on start up (very common) but if it goes away quickly after riding and continues not to smoke its should be ok.
If you determine that the bike does not smoke when left on its centerstand overnight and the guy does not have all service records or at least the service record for the spline service and valve shim check I would take a pass on the bike.
My favorite of the brick line is K75s as they are extremely smooth motor ( the K100 - K1100 line does have some vibration in the handlebars) which I hated.
