I wouldnt go by what consumer reports says anyway..They used to be fair in their analysis but being an automotive instructor I can safely say the ranger is a good choice..I like the 4.0liter OHC engine becuase it has lots of power and if you get late 90s or early 2000s truck you will be fine.Just keep the oil changed and the tranny flushed and you will be fine with the best selling compact truck of all time.
