Results - tasting over $30 zinfandels...

...since this is my favorite category of wine, I was excited about doing this. There were 6 of us blind-tasting 6 wines - low points wins.6. 2014 Ridge Lytton Springs $35 - 33pts - 3 lasts - a little tannic - this was a big surprise because we liked this one the best at the zinfandel dinner we attended last March. It had even been decanted for a a couple of hours so perhaps it needed some rich, fatty food to balance it.
5. 2015 Ridge Geyserville $35 - 27pts - 3 lasts - perhaps it's a little young, tight and needs some bottle age to open up.
4. 2014 Turley Dusi Paso Robles $56 - 20pts - I've had the Dusi before and liked it so maybe it just needs more bottle age.
3. 2012 San Miguel Russian River - $36 -16pts - 1 first (may be the last of the 2012s)
2. 2015 Calcareous Katie's Vineyard Paso Robles $34 - 15pts - 2 firsts (from Total Wine)
1. 2014 Brown Estate Napa $40 - 14pts- 3 firsts (my wine and my first)
First of all none of these wines were bad - I would happily drink any of them. But some were definitely better than others to drink now. Notice the point spreads - the top 3 were only 1 point apart.
