An "Inboard stern drive" ???

216.209.134.122

A few days ago, I was at a marina (Little Current Ontario, Canada) where at any time during the boating season a large variety of interesting boats of all types and sizes can be found. I saw a boat that struck me as being very unusual in that it had a motor box in the center of the cockpit like an Inboard, but had a Volvo Duoprop outdrive mounted on the stern. I am assuming here that the engine is connected to the drive by some sort of shaft. The benefits of such an arrangement would be better weight distribution, easier access to the transom, etc etc. There were no markings on the boat, and I was unable to find the owner to gather more info. The boat appeared to be about 20 feet in length, white fiberglass construction, and had a closed bow with a "Bomar" hatch and a full windshield and convertible top. It was of the "classical runabout" configuration. All in all, it looked very nicely put together. Can anyone out there supply some info on this thing?
Thankyou. R.
