The colours & sharpness are really good, was your lens in telephoto?...............it was a cloudy day worked out well, no shadows...........
On average I find overcast days great for colour shots as it gives good colour saturation & the camera can capture the tonal range of the shot.
....................How do I improve on this?...............
I would try to take some shots at different angles, or make the plaque a smaller part of the shot where the vivid colours would draw the eye to the plaque. A good shot is where you guide the viewer’s eye to the subject with the composition you choose. Another thing you could try is to use light that is glancing off the wall at an angle such as morning or late afternoon this would bring the texture in the wall out for a dramatic effect. Also the morning afternoon glancing sun on the wall could create interesting textures & shadows. A lot of photography is really using the light along with the subject matter to create a more interesting shot. So next Sunday when you sneak into the local Ukrainian Church try lying down on the floor & see how that changes the shot.hehe
