You would probably want a simple, easy to shoot Dig. and there are a lot of them out there for $300.00. It seems like just before Christmas the manufacturers bring out their new line just for the Christmas market sales.
I would be looking at the Minolta Dimage models, for easy of use or Fuji Finepix models. Also Canon, Olympus, Nikon Coolpix, and Sony have an assortment of models. You should really visit a photo shop and check them out to see which one feels best. You won't go wrong on any of them.
