As good as those First and third generation cameras are or were, Autofocus cameras and lens have under gone major revisions. They focus a lot quicker and the lens now incorporate internal stabilizers for steadier hand held low shutter speed shooting.I would be less concerned about metal mounts on the very light weight wide - short tele lens you have. And why two of the same range? Ditch that Sigma!
I shoot lots of nature, living here as I do in So. FL (Everglades). I could not shoot our Wading Birds (Herons) with anything less than a 300mm lens and up ( 1.4 tele-converter). With that kind of lens power I would demand a metal mount and a lens collar with it's own tripod screw for mounting to a tripod. That would balance out the camera & lens and take the weight off of the bottom of camera.
