MARS ALERT!!!!!!

12.82.164.200

This was posted by 'tinear' on the 'Outside Asylum':
The Amazing Planet Mars is about to be spectacular this month and next. Earth is catching up with Mars in an encounter that will culminate in the closest approach between the two planets in recorded history.
The next time Mars may come this close is in the year 2287. Due to the way Jupitor's gravity tugs on Mars and perturbs its orbit, astronomers can not only be certain that Mars has not come this close to Earth in the last 5,000 years, but may be as long as 60,000 years before it happens again.
The encounter will culminate on Aug. 27th when Mars comes within 34,649,589 miles to Earth and will be next to the moon in brightness. With a modest 75-power telescope, Mars will look as large as the moon to the naked eye. At the beginning of Aug. it will rise in the East at about 10 PM and reach it's azimuth at about 3 AM.
Question: What kind of telescopic lens would be best for taking a shot at Mars? I'm thinking about renting one (if I can) for ether my Leica or for the Hasselblad.
