I can only give general advice as I don't have a digital camera although I have used one. (an Olympus I think).
Most of the digital cameras on the market now offer very good picture quality. However quality of image still depends on more than one factor such as lens quality.
I would therefore go for one of the better makes such as Nikon, Canon, Olympus, etc as lens quality will be better and then look at close up facilities and the number of pixels used (the more the better). They all offer fairly cheap models now.
You should be able to derive a short list from this within your price range.
If you don't want to go for a mainstream manufacturer, then there are some models available which are branded products and thus cheaper, but still offer good quality. They may not have the same facilities for close-up etc so shop around.Hope this helps
