RE: Fifty years ago, SCOTUS said that money is speech

Since you brought up tax $$$ (my OP was about Qatar funding, not taxes) ...

$45 BILLION is a chunk of taxpayer $$$.

Elite universities have collected $45 billion in taxpayer funds since 2018, watchdog says

WASHINGTON (TND) — A report released Wednesday by watchdog organization Open The Books found the U.S.'s 10 most elite universities have raked in a whopping $45 billion in taxpayer dollars to fund research since 2018.

"The last time we looked at this, the eight schools of the Ivy League collected more federal payments than what 16 state governments collected in the same period," Andrzejewski said. "It's an extraordinary amount of money."

Of these schools, only Dartmouth College brought in less than $1 billion, and Stanford University took home the most with $7 billion. Each of these schools made more money through tax dollars than they did undergraduate admission funds, effectively making them government agencies, Andrzejewski said.

"These elite universities are more federal contractors than they are educators," he said. "Those ten wealthy elite colleges received $33 billion of federal contracts and grants between the years 2018 and 2022. That number exceeded their receipt of undergraduate student tuition."
