Once upon a time, I extended the sides of a 8' Jon boat up and in to make it less likely to swamp. I used wire screen, riveted to the gunnels and covered it with fiberglass cloth and glass epoxy. I sanded a strip of paint off of the aluminum hull and let the epoxy contact the hull just below the original gunnel. I was surprised at how well the glass epoxy bonded to the aluminum.Though I've not ever patched a hole in aluminum with fiberglass, I believe it would work. If you can find a small piece of aluminum near the same gauge as your hull, cover the hole from the inside with aluminum, using pop-rivets, then coat both sides (after sanding to bare aluminum) with fiberglass cloth and glass epoxy, repaint and be on your way.
