i photograph wildlife at realtively close range.... silver a NO-NO... The best is Matte Black. Any chance for a reflection into the eyes of your subjects from a silver camera is asking for it.Also, if you are a candid photographer... black is less noticeable.
Follow Ups:
when I shoot my nature subjects I will often use fill flash behind a George Lepp magnified flash bracket. The light from which animals don't seem to detect. I have noticed Gorillas in the Zoo will sometimes look at you.Maybe thosed passed down gene things LOL.This tiger never noticed me.......I love the siliva drop from top fang.Provia 100 at f5,6 125th fill flash Nikon 300mm plus 1.4 converter= 420mm. Through a fence.
my same experience with ZOO animals... they are used to flashes.
ZOO Animals <> Wildlife!certainly fill flash is important, although i don't use Tory Lepps device anymore because it's heavy and loosens your flash over time.... i've been using the lighter version made by Art Morris.
With wild animals and birds some are not frightened of flashes (the thought is that it looks like lightining which they are used to????), but others take a while to get used to it. If you have been camping out for several hours waiting for your shot, having a reflective surface be your give away ain't fun! been there, done that!
YMMV.
plenty of wadding birds. And Gators, deer, wild hog, Otters etc.Maybe they see a lot of lightining. Please provide a link for Art Morris.
This Snowy Egret in the original slide has oodles of texture and detail in the whites.Just looses in low rez here.
Hi Joe,nice back yard! I live in San Diego, so we have some good wildlife, but clearly my favorite in the Area is the Salton Sea for photography. I'm going to be going to Organ Pipe Ntl. Monument next weekend and hope to get some great scenery, Harris Hawks and Javalina's .... we'll see what the gods have in store.
This image was taken at the Wild Animal Park in San Diego... ;-)
