But it looks beautiful, very nice colour & sheen. I really like that one.

Canon G2, I used the auto focus for speed & the inbuilt flash on the camera.
That's really pretty! Am I right in thinking that the G2 is a 4mp unit?Since you can take such great shots, could you give a newbie like me some buying advice? I'm graduating from a Logitech PC camera to one or other 4 or 5mp camera. I just need to know which ones are worth the outlay, and which lemons to avoid. Care to help?
Also, RB, do you use a printer at home with your PC. We need a printer to go with it. We'll have to act fast, as our 10-month-old is growing fast, and so far we only have some very dodgy images of him!
Thanks for any help.

Yes the G2 is 4 mp as is the new G3 but it has some more features. If you are not really into photography then I see no need for you to buy a camera that has lots of settings you won't use. On my G2 I use the manual settings a bit & manual focusing. So a good point & shoot camera is all you may need. The Canons & Sony have quite good optics as do most of the digital cameras today. The mega pixels are not really relevant to sharpness it's only relevant to the size you will blow the shot up to print. So a 2mp camera will take as good a shot as my 4mp if you only want post card size shots. I print mine at 8x10 at 200 dpi so 4mp just covers that. My friend has a Sony P7 3mp & he blows them up to A4 & they look quite good but at about 150dpi not for a fussy hobbyist like wot we are hehe.
My printer is a HP DeskJet 930c getting a bit old now but gets very nice results. Most of the reasonably priced colour printers will give you very nice prints on photo paper. I think the Canon printers will be cheaper on colour inks than the others.

I should stop kidding myself that somewhere in me lurks a 'real' photographer - but I'm pleased to hear that the G2, and maybe G3 work well. I've waded through endless sites just to get info' like this - greatly appreciated. And what's more, you've al;so proved that you can succesfully wield one of these things!

.............I should stop kidding myself that somewhere in me lurks a 'real' photographer................All you have to do is to buy a simple "how to" photography book (maybe from Kodak) that explains in simple terminology the basics of good photography. You would be amazed at how your shots improve with just a little pre-thought. Don't get put off by seeing what you think is a really good shot from me or others, as to get the Bee & flower shot I would have shot about 20 picys & got one good shot. Of course no one gets to see my failures hehe

I have roughly 12 G of scanned photos. That's a || of the whole. I don't have even the scanned ones indexed, although we're working on the hard copy here and there.
