nice effort too.
Follow Ups:
For a while it was all travel and hiking pics but lately Its been alleys and the Getty Center and these and playing with DOF and angles a lot and just generally trying a lot of things I've always wanted to photograph but wasn't.I also really want to start taking pictures of people... portraits but also just street shots (have to work up some nerve there as the idea makes me uncomfortable). I'm being given a Nikon 35mm f/2.0D as a gift for some work I did and that should be good for trying out the street stuff.
I'm seriously considering taking this workshop in the fall if my work schedule allows it...

I find it almost impossible to take photographs of other people, even family. I feel as uncomfortable pointing a lens at others as i do when someone points one at me. I love exploring myself with the camera though (vanity?).By the way i really like your choice of sepia treatment, i find sepia is used to falsely give a sense of age to a photo and i abhore that. It works very well indeed with your subject above.
I've also taken a lot of self portrait shots... especially when hiking. I think that besides vanity it's because I really want to take pictures of people and I'm just more comfortable having that person be me.There are some excellent self portrait galleries at pbase.com This woman does all self portraits...

I really want to make an effort to take more pictures of people. My main discomfort comes from taking them of strangers as I don't really like the idea of sneaking pictures of people... or asking them.
About the sepia, thanks, now that some time has passed I think it works too. It was suggested by someone at dpreview that I try greatly lowering the saturation and trying different single color tones as an alternative to the sepia but I haven't messed with that yet.

in my area the Palm Beach Workshops are great. i've taken them.
Freeman Patterson's 'Photography for the Joy of It' has influenced my photographic mind more than anything else. I've seen some incredible shots since first reading it but nothing seems to speak to the subject with the same depth as his writing.
