I wonder if audiophiles listen to music while they drive. The reason I ask is that I cannot find any helpfull information about thoughtfull high end car audio upgrades. There is at least mid-fi level equipment available (Focal drivers for example). But the only car audio forums online are focused on how to convert your vehicle into a sonic hip hop chamber of torture.
Specific question:
I want to upgrade the drivers in a 1996 Jaguar XJR using the original Harmon Kardon/Alpine electronics by upgrading the drivers. The speaker demensions are not available online anywhere, not even Crutchfield. Any advice would be apreciated.
Thanks.
Follow Ups:
As an ex-IASCA sound quality judge, i find little in the NEW department of interest. See if you can find an old Sony XES system. As for amplification IF you can;t find the Sony XES, my suggestion would be to try Audison amplifiers and for mods/highs the NOS Nakamichi 6.5-inch separates loudspeakers.
Head units can vary and have been away too long to know what the new stuff offers (except the Pioneer AVIC-1). The OLD Alpine head units are very good and go for decent $$$ on Ebay nowadays. Just yanked one out of the Ferrari in favor of the Pioneer AVIC-1 as i needed GPS and making a custom DVD-Video of the car for car shows.
That's all i got. See if there are any IASCA competitions near you and look for the SOUND QUALITY cars, not the SPL stuff. Hope this helps.
Enjoy the Music,
Steven R. Rochlin
NOTE: Perhaps buy a pair of KEF 104/2 loudspeakrs and use the drivers and crossover in the car???
