It's good for consumer advice and chitchat. It's not particularly digicam friendly, and this is, I think, supposed to be a digicam forum. It has an audiophile rant or two on it, as well.

Well, hey, I'm not partial to either. I love the AA community, and I actually rarely participate at Photo.net.It's not "consumer-advice"... there are actually A LOT of pros there, but they do help out the beginner. What I really like out of the photo.net site is that there is more composition and "where to get the best light, best location, etc." talk than equipment stuff, and they have a weekly ranking of the best pictures, etc.
Although there are a lot of traditionalists there, I'm sure they do have a lot on digital cameras. The lead author, Phil Greenspun, uses the Canon D-30 digital SLR nowadays. They also have a ton of information there on professional digitization of pictures, digital printing, etc.
Enjoy!
Keith
Photo.net has the BEST "where to buy" section I know of. If that's not consumer advice, nothing is.I have found their digital section to be a bit, well, specialized I guess is the right word.
Btw, Phil IS photo.net. Lead author, too, maybe.

Hi JJ,Sorry, I misunderstood. I meant "not consumer advice" as that they also have a ton of very knowledgable professionals that participate in the forums, and for a long time now I've been reading the posts on more composition and picture critiques than "where to buy". I agree it's definitely a very valuable site for those starting out as well.
Phil does not write all that much anymore. I remember when that site used to be all just about his travel journals. Nowadays it's more about the readers who post -- but then again, I'm sure others get other things out of that site. For me, it's like a Photoasylum, largely because all I go for are those daily posts.
sorry for the confusion,
Keith
I find my taste more in line with some of the other critique forums, personally. But it is huge and active, there is no doubt.
I think this is supposed to be digicam, if anything. We shall see. We ought to make an FAQ. You willing to make an article about where to look for stuff like "what store to visit" and so on, and where to find equiment reviews?
I suspect you may be more up on that than I am, I tend mostly to critique forms.
