I see people taking nice pictures, but I have always picked up the littlest smudges I could never see. I suppose I'll need alot of light to do it otherwise?

I'll have to see if there's a way to disable the flash. I'm in the basement, but I have overhead lights, and a lamp on either side. But the camera flashes automatically (Nikon coolpix 3200).I see people taking nice pictures, but I have always picked up the littlest smudges I could never see.
